Heaven On Seven, a place I'm going to get to and number I like was a restaurant I didn't want to pass up. On a warm Saturday night as I approached Heaven On Seven, music was pouring from the opened door and a Louisiana styled restaurant was calling my name. A small cozy spot with a few high top tables in the window that looked out into the street and a very French styled bar if there was such a thing. The ornate light fixtures that hung above said bar captured the theming of the restaurant perfectly. A three or was it a four piece band played and we ended up sitting right next to the band which was cool. WHAT? I SAID SITTING NEXT TO THE BAND WAS COOL. THE BAND, SITTING NEXT TO THE BAND IS LOUD. An impressive drink menu that had something called Voodoo juice sounded like a drink I did not want to mess with. So what did I do? I ordered Voodoo juice with my mindset being that voodoo comes in two forms, good and bad, so maybe this voodoo juice will bring me some good voodoo. The special that was just brought back according to our friendly waitresss, and recommended was the Tilapia over rice with Gumbo soup. Sure. Not being overly familiar with the Louisanna style of food Heaven on Seven offers, I was wager to try what Louisana style Tilapia was going to be. A plate with a layer of rice a generous serving of Tilapia underneath a spicy red sauce and rice was presented to me. The Tilapia was Tilapia, it tasted like Tilapia, I was hoping that somehow the Tilapia would have a touch of Louisana style to it, some heat, some kick something that would make it stand out. I've had Tilapia before and this was very good Tilapia. While enjoying my meal I was drawn to stare at the wall that proudly displays thousands of bottles of hot sauce, the collection is impressive some appear that they have heard the band play for years. The band took a break, I SAID THE BAND TOOK A BREAK. Sorry. The band took a break. Let's clarify something here. I didn't have a problem with sitting next to the band, they made it look easy and looked cool doing it, but it was just that we probably should have sat a little away from the band because if I did not intend to talk to the rest of my party then it was fine. I just really don't like having to talk very loudly in order to carry on a conversation. The table right next to the band is perfect if you don't want to talk but instead just get lost in the music. I had a great time, the food was solid and I enjoyed the music, I would even sit next to the band again. The voodoo juice I had didn't bring me any good voodoo nor any bad voodoo. Well maybe I shouldn't say that, maybe it kept bad things away and brought good things to me. Maybe my reward will be in Heaven. I'll be back to Heaven on Seven again, I need some good voodoo.

Great place for a nice, quiet lunch with some food that's a little out of the ordinary. Very sizeable portions, i was full about 2/3 of the way through. We got chicken voodoo enchiladas ((AMAZING)) and the blackened chicken po' boy ((the sauce on it is mouthwatering)) that's offered as part of the lunch menu. Also tried the gumbo which definitely lived up to the hype and a creamed corn soup with shrimp which i recommend if you're looking for a sweeter option. The table also comes with complimentary pickles which is always a nice perk. Overall bill with tip for 2 people during lunch came out to 32 which isn't too bad for downtown naperville. Overall highly recommend, the only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because it didn't blow me away but still stellar food, I'd definitely go back.

We were recently in Naperville for an event at North Central College. Once it wrapped up at almost 9pm we quickly searched Yelp for a place that was both open for dinner and nearby. We saw a listing for Heaven on Seven and said "good enough." But as it turns out it was even better than good enough. We walked in and were surprised to find a live jazz band playing, as well as a highly thematic interior design celebrating all things New Orleans. The place was fairly hopping with a late Friday crowd but we were still seated quickly at a rather large table at the back. My sister and I split the "angry mussels," which were excellent. They were just the right amount of spicy and the sauce was pleasantly chunky with onions and tomatoes. We were still talking about those mussels the next day, they were so good. This item was on the specials menu, FYI, so sadly it might not be there if you stop by another time. Also, it should be noted that our waitress brought this dish to our table already split into two plates - great service! We also shared the sweet potato "polenta," which was more like a sweet potato pudding - dessert-like, and reminiscent of caramel. It made for a nice dessert and so we saved it for last, but it is sort of a strange side dish. Others in our group ordered the gumbo, which was very tasty, with a nice smoky flavor. I see why all of the staff t-shirts advertise it. The only criticisms, which are not enough to deduct a star in my opinion, are: the bread at the table was decidedly not warm at all, which was a minor disappointment. Likewise, it seemed like some of the dishes were not quite as warm as I expected. They were definitely above room temperature, but seemed to run a bit cool. The flavor was not affected though, so again not something I would really worry about. This was our first time here, so that might have been a one-time event in any case. In conclusion, this place was a really lucky find and a nice way to cap off our evening. We are eager to return again and try some of the other very tempting items on the menu.

This is my jambalaya retreat! I love jambalaya... Like, I seriously LOOOVE jambalaya. It's one of my ultimate comfort foods, and one of the handful of things on this planet that helps keep me from going bonkers. I hunt down jambalaya, and I've had a lot over the years - good, bad, and everything else in between. I think the jambalaya at Heaven on Seven, in Naperville, is my fav-o-rite! It was better than the one at the Wabash location, better than anything I've made, and better than anything else I've gotten at other restaurants. Geez, I can't even clearly remember anything else I got, despite being stone-cold sober. I remember telling my pals that the gumbo was really good, and I made a mental note in my head about the etouffee also being really good... But it's all just overshadowed by how body-slamming awesome the jambalaya was. If I could feel complex human emotions, I probably would have wept while eating this. The service was also great, and the meal was even better because of the fun atmosphere. I'll be back for more, oh yes I will!

Coming to Heaven on '7'--at which I '8'--put me directly on Cajun cloud '9'. I vaguely remember eating here a few summers back (Yelp says it was around 7/4/14), but as I recall the experience was good enough to warrant a return, and I was right! I've found the food here to be better than Shanahan's in Forest Park, and although the atmosphere isn't quite as lively as it is at Pappadeaux in Westmont, the excellent service more than makes up for it. On a gorgeous weeknight in early March, I met my dinner companion here for some good ole' Creole. I was early to arrive so I ordered the house specialty drink--a hurricane--and looked over the menu. To my amazement, I wasn't carded for the strong cocktail (which came with a lovely adornment of beads). Eventually my date arrived and we put in an order for noms. Once again, I started with their 'hot as a mutha' appetizer, which is a habanero pepper filled with Chihuahua cheese, breaded & deep-fried, then served atop a tropical salsa medley that included mango and green bell peppers. For connoisseurs of spicy things, it's a great little firecracker of an item, largely due to the fact that the kitchen doesn't remove the seeds or the veins prior to preparation. For $6, I'd happily do it again. There's so much to choose from on their menu, but I ultimately decided on the Mardi Gras platter, which essentially gave me a little bit of everything. It came with: BBQ ribs, jerk chicken wings, shrimp & andouille sausage eggrolls, crab cakes, jalapeno corn blasters, and cajun chicken bites. I also got a cup of gumbo with it, which was a pleasant surprise. After sampling a bit of everything, I came to the conclusion that everything was at least 'good' (a few things were 'great') and nothing sucked. The huge wall of hot sauces is a sight to behold, but they're strictly decorative, so don't touch [even if you're tempted {as I was}, they're glued down/cemented to the shelf, so those bottles ain't goin anywhere]. Green, yellow, and purple streamer-like things fluttered on the ceiling, and New Orleans-themed art hung on the wall opposite the hot sauces. This place has a great vibe to it; it's really hard not to love. Ironically, the last time I was here on 7/4/14, I had the exact same server (Steve, the bald guy) who once again did a terrific job. He was the perfect balance of engaging and genuine that took a 4.5-star meal into 5-star territory. Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 5! I've had a couple terrific experiences at NaperThrill's Heaven on Seven, so I think it's time to give the original downtown location a shot. I gotta imagine the food and atmo is as enjoyable there as it is here (at least, I hope).

I love Cajun food and while Heaven on Seven is not the best I've ever had, it is pretty darn good! I've tried a mix of things from their menu and have not been disappointed. Each time we've been here the portions have been sizable as well. I could make a meal out of just their awesome cornbread! I love the fun decor - one wall is covered in, what else? Bottles of all kinds of crazy hot sauces. The other wall has some eclectic artwork to enjoy. The staff has always been friendly, even when the place is hopping. I highly recommend making reservations unless you are coming at an off-peak time. The restaurant is small and fills up very quickly. If you fail to make reservations there are plenty of other shops in downtown Naperville to peruse while your appetite builds.

People who go to Heaven all come back and say the same thing. Try the gumbo. The wait staff's shirts say something along those lines. I would say try the gumbo and catfish! Beware though; the gumbo packs some spice. My catfish po' boy was so fresh, and along with the cole slaw, there's no way you could leave hungry. The tables are kind of small, but once your food comes, all you'll worry about is getting it into your mouth. One year from my last review... still 5 stars and going strong!
